Happy 2012. Lets make this an epic year, rather than a bad disaster film.

The start of a brand new year can only mean one thing and that's to get friends together and paint something BIG...ish. January 1st was a mixture of cloud and rain, nothing new here and joining in the fray were Bonzai and Wrist.
Today's piece was inspired by a fantastic series looking at the history of New York from its early beginnings to the current day. New York is a city that pulled so many people in from all over the globe who sort either refuge or were looking for a better life.
The Irish made up a huge number of people flocking to the city and became a major part of the workforce whilst enduring some of the harshest living conditions. I was interested in the story of Al Smith who as an Irish American fought for social and work reforms for the working classes , especially the low paid garment workers and tenement dwellers of the time.

Take a cold December weekend, add an impressive line up of artists with a stash of Black paint and you have the recipe for a Sunday Roast even your mum would be impressed with. Special guests this weekend were Soker,Epok and Sepr from Bristol, with Cemo and Aseb representing hard for France. Bonzai,Amuk, Solo,Poer and Twesh from Italy completed the full line up. Fuelled by coffee from madeira cafe no time was wasted imagining among ourselves how the wall should flow, with roughly 8 hours of painting time it was all about getting stuck in and turning up the ipods. We hope you like the results.

The young people from St Clement Dane Primary School recently took part in a one day urban art workshop. The brief was very simple and that was to come up with a word or an idea and to design it on paper. When the drawings were finished we then transferred the drawings to small boards.

The Meeting Of Styles took place this year on Saturday 8th October at The Studios on Hornsey St, N7. For this year Brixton based artist Solo did a one day paint session involving youngsters from the local area to teach the basics of Graffiti style painting.
Brasov artist Nicoleta was on hand to design the back wall with her characters and thrown in for good measure was Motor painting her trademark characters.
The day was a great success with around 40 youngsters all taking part and going home with a board that they had designed. The artwork will be up for a while and its worth checking out some of the work on the street. Many thanks to Jim and Matilda for organising what has to be one of the best quality Graffiti events in London.

Todays tag team effort consisted of Aeon and Solo painting a wall for the Portobello film festival. The theme of the wall was a nation under duress and features an upside down American flag which is traditionally flown when the Nation is in distress. Unfortunately due to over protective management at the site this wall won't live, but will hopefully make a nice desktop screensaver for someone.

This selection of work was produced by various young artists during recent workshops held across the Capital. These sessions were quick draw and paint exercises often with no referance and relying heavily on the young people to bring their creativity to the sessions. A few pointers were given here and there but for most this was their art. Another reason why seeing great art is not always going to be in a Gallery.

Go see Bristol while its still open for business.

Bristol City Council came up with a great initiative to boost tourism to the city and brighten up one of the drabbest streets in Bristol by inviting artists to come and paint. After the contracts were signed by the artists ( with limits on free speech) they set to work decorating the beast that is Nelson St. Highlights were TATS crew and El Mac doing some pretty impressive stuff and Ghetto Faceurs/ Bonzai and Smugs offering which was probably one of the most impressive pieces painted on a street this year.
See No Evil will hopefully expand next year and no doubt be bigger if the economy doesn't totally collapse and we'll all be dressed like extra's on a Mad Max film scavenging for petrol and Pringles.

Todays paint session on the Stockwell Park Estate featured Bonzai, Ghetto Faceur from France and TATS Crew all the way from the boogie down Bronx. I always think with a name like that everyone must dance on the way to the supermarkets or something. Also comming out to paint with Jedi like skills after a massive 20 year ' paint break ' was Goldie.
The mural was a celebration of excellence and a dedication to the residents who came out to view it while it was happening. Well thats TATS crew and Goldie, when are we going to see a Chrome Angelz reunion?

This week saw some painting action with a guest artist from Lima, Peru called Jade Uno. ( www.Jadeuno.com) and Mecamutanterio from Mexico. You have to give it to the South Americans they always bring some differant styles to the wall and its refreshing to see that in London. Inspired by the film ' Loose Change Final Cut'.

This piece was painted for last years Portobello Film festival. The brief was to paint something on the theme of your favourite film. I opted for Loose Change final cut as this was a film that raised serious questions surrounding the attacks on the world trade centre in 2001 and I had done a ton of research into the collapse of the towers and building 7. ( This was the building that fell near the twin towers due to fire, while the evidence points to controlled demolition)
The piece features the twin towers smoking and the mask on the left represents the mask worn by the people who are concealing the facts from the public and denying any wrongdoing in these attacks. Hopefully this year on the 10th anniversary Portobello Film festival will show Loose Change final cut. It would be a fitting film for the festival and a more informative choice for the public to see.

R.I.P Brian Haw

Brian Haw was a dedicated peace campaigner who stayed outside Parliament, camped in the square for the last 10 years. His presence with fellow peace activists was a constant reminder for the M.P's using Westminster of the War in Iraq and Afganistan which they voted for. Sadly Brian died of cancer last week so to honour his memory Solo and Shucks teamed up to paint this dedication in memory of a man with a great heart. Rest in Peace Brian Haw

Todays escapades were fuelled by Portobello Roads finest establishment ' Falafal King'. I never usually plug businesses but this place is so special. I had the pleasure to meet Towns RT in there who unfortunately was unable to paint due to the wet weather. It seems like the 'purple carrot' people carried out their threat of retaliation on our wall for painting over their carrot. If I had known such an iconic piece of street art had meant so much to them I would probably have left it up but the thought of having one of my favourite veg's hanging above my work and then having to explain to everyone who asks, the huge Veg leaves me terrified. I kind of worked out it must have been a real ball ache painting that huge thing but when it comes to doing what I do large, it is never a pain to get rid if that street art rubbish. Recently PCP crew member Rasty joined me on the Stockwell Park Estate to paint a full wall. A return to East London was on the cards recently for myself and Motor to spend a day fixing up the spot we have off Brick Lane. A quick decision was made on what was to stay or go on the wall so I decided to mulsh out the huge carrot which would end up sitting on top of my piece. Some things just have to go. Motor painted her signature characters complete with symetrical background.
Fortunately for us we had the sun all day even though overhead their was constant helicopter activity courtesy of President Obamas visit to London. At one point we were circled by Chinooks and I couldn't help thinking that maybe me wearing my keffeyah scarf might be a cause for a security concern. Unfortunately I had to face the wrath of two disgruntled Italian Street artists who painted the carrot as to why it had been painted over. After failing miserably to convince them how good the wall was going to look without the carrot I settled with them threatening to come back and destroy the wall, which would be great as being a painter i'd get to do it twice!

Recently I collaborated on a piece with long time friend Remi Rough. The concept was quite simple, freestyle on the wall, done and dusted in a couple of hours. Remi Rough has been an inspirational artist to many in the U.K graf scene not only as a solid member of VOP crew but also his experimentational work with Ikonoklast and his many paintings across the world.
Remi has maintained and produced some classic work and his work has matured out of the Graf label into something that is credible within the gallery scene.
I hope you enjoy these latest works from Stockwell Park Estate from us and others like Vibes, Bonzai, Estum and Lovepusher who are continually pushing this artform to the maximum and showing what can be done on the walls with effort, dedication and determination.
Finally I would like to send a get well soon message to Roshan and Thusha who were injured on Tuesday night in Stockwell Food and Wine store. Our prayers and thoughts are with your families at this difficult time. peace and Love will win.

On Saturday 19th March, 2011 the ' Girls on top ' graffiti jam took place on the Stockwell Park Estate. Some of London's finest ladies painted alongside artists from Sweden, South Africa and France.
